Historical Background
Nineteen ninety four became the most significant year for the Filipino business entrepreneurs and professionals in Orange County. It marked the formation of a cohesive, united and vibrant Chamber of Commerce. The necessity to become more involved not only in each other businesses through networking, but also in the the community at large, motivated the creation of the FACCOC.
As a realtor, mortgage broker and restaurant owner, Nolan Alejandro got invited and attended the Orange County Minority Business Council Meeting held on October 1994. To his surprise, the Filipino Entrepreneurs were the only ones not represented as a chamber. Upon much prodding and encouragement from all minority council members, the idea of a Fil Am Chamber of Commerce of Orange County was conceived. Nolan called on Dr. Carmelita Co-Casquejo and both started the ball rolling to establish the professional link of the Chamber.
Since then, the chamber has conducted educational business seminars, mixers as well as social and family affairs. It has also participated in community service activities benefiting our countrymen.
Yes, the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce is the most effective voice of a business advocate. It will enhance our credibility and visibility as a group promoting socio-economic-political clout not only here in the United States but also in our Mother Country, the Philippines.
