Lealei Magat was born to Eduardo and Leonila Magat. She was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has a younger sister, Leilani. Lealei attended Holy Family Academy, St. Elizabeth School, and then St. Francis High School. Her leadership history dates back to high school. As a junior she was class president and in her senior year she was student body president. She was also involved in numerous extracurricular activities such as debate, band, ambassadors, and yearbook. She graduated in May 2005 as Valedictorian and received a distinguishment award for her leadership roles.
For college, Lealei decided to move to California and attend Loyola Marymount University. She was actively involved in the Accounting Society as well as the Hawaii Club, Na Kolea. In her junior year she was the Public Relations Officer of the Accounting Society and later became President her senior year. She graduated cum laude in May 2009 with a 3.67 GPA. This September, Lealei began working for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the assurance practice. She has also taken the role as Secretary for the International Society of Young Filipino Accountants.
