Secretary
Director Eddie Tiongson is a professor of Communication Studies at Irvine Valley College. He’s been there since 2002 and in which he has also served as Department Chair and Director of the IVC Speech and Debate, and Senator for the School of the Arts. Since 2016, Eddie served as the Project Director for the Title III federally funded AANAPISI program ELEVATE AAPI at IVC ( Equitable Learning Experiences Valuing Achievement, Transfer, and Empowerment of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders at Irvine Valley College). Since becoming project director, he has worked tirelessly to organize events and initiate programs designed to increase student engagement and empowerment of our Asian and Pacific Islander students and community.
As part of a concerted effort to highlight the myriad cultures within the larger geographic grouping of “Asian” and “Pacific Islander”, Edwin Tiongson organizes annual campus events that coincide with federally designated months that recognize and commemorate Asian and Pacific Islander (API) contributions to the American story. The Pinoy Piyesta in October recognizes Filipino-American History Month and API Heritage Day commemorates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May. Moreover, Eddie works to focus on strategic public and professional partnerships to better meet the demands of today’s workforce, entrepreneurial opportunities, and credit earning mentorships. And thus this is why Eddie became a member of FACCOC in 2018 and became secretary of the chamber in 2019.
In addition, Eddie was voted to continue his work as director serving from 2020-22 and was reelected this year to serve another term as Secretary for The Filipino American Chambers of Commerce of Orange County. Eddie describes himself as a first-generation born Filipino American, conversationalist, adventurer, guitarist, husband, partner, and father.
If you’re looking to foster partnerships to empower college students, in career educational opportunities like an apprenticeship, hosting a pitch competition, developing young entrepreneurs, building internships, and fostering other working relationships and professional opportunities, please contact Eddie at etiongson@ivc.edu.
